Chiefs Draft Bust in Talks to Join Upcoming Opponent

Former Chiefs OT Lucas Niang, who was just released by Kansas City from the practice squad in a surprise move this week, has already landed a new opportunity.

The Browns, who also added Kadarius Toney during the season, are in the midst of a lost season with a need to evaluate young players who could help form the foundation of a potential future contender.

Niang never made a large impact with the Chiefs yet still has plenty of exciting experience with the best team in the NFL, so perhaps he could help a Cleveland offensive line that’s failed to properly support the offense.

Originally a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Niang earned significant playing time in his rookie campaign though never managed to earn a large role after that.

He was a standout at TCU who could theoretically play both tackle positions, yet has been an afterthought despite the Chiefs’ massive issues at tackle. Kansas City hasn’t found a true answer and it’s significantly damaged the offense, making it a fair assumption that the coaching staff didn’t believe Niang was a legitimate option.

There’s hope that if Niang signs with the Browns, he could develop into a reliable contributor. He’s shown little to this point in his career though, looking more like a bad draft pick than anything.

We’ll see what happens with Niang’s future. It’s possible the Browns don’t sign him at all. Nonetheless, here’s hoping Niang finds a new home sooner than later.
