The Kansas City Chiefs snuck past the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday afternoon, narrowly taking down their division rival with a 17-19 final score at Arrowhead Stadium.
Aidan O’Connell and the Raiders offense were in position to kick a game-winning field goal in the closing seconds of the fourth quarter, but a botched snap resulted in a game-sealing fumble recovery for Chiefs’ linebacker Nick Bolton.
This wild ending resulted in another closely-contested victory for the Chiefs, moving their 2024 season record to 11-1. With their 11th win of the year, the Chiefs clinched their 10th consecutive playoff berth.
This 10th consecutive playoff appearance extends the longest streak in Chiefs postseason history. It’s the second longest streak in NFL history, trailing only Tom Brady and the New England Patriots dynasty that notched 11 straight playoff berths from 2009-19.
“We clinched a playoff berth for the 10th straight season with yesterday’s win!” the Chiefs wrote in an announcement on X. We clinched a playoff berth for the 10th straight season with yesterday’s win! — Kansas City Chiefs (@Chiefs) November 30, 2024
The Chiefs are currently tied with the Detroit Lions for the best record in the NFL. That being said, Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City franchise haven’t been nearly as convincing in their victories.
Each of the Chiefs’ last five wins have come within a one-possession margin. The reigning Super Bowl champions suffered their first loss of the 2024 season at the hands of the Buffalo Bills in Week 11. With their playoff fate now secured, the Chiefs will look to close out the season strong in the remaining five weeks of the 2024 NFL regular season. They’re set to face off against the Los Angeles Chargers in a primetime Week 14 matchup next Sunday night.
Fresh off back-to-back Super Bowl victories, the Chiefs are after the first Super Bowl three-peat in NFL history.
