Kyle Tucker’s massive 10-year, $401M contract projection may limit suitors

The Chicago Cubs took a huge risk by trading for Houston Astros star Kyle Tucker last offseason. Tucker produced for Chicago this year, but he sat on an expiring contract, so he’s headed for free agency after one season in the Windy City.

Spotrac recently projected Tucker to sign a massive 10-year, $401 million deal in free agency this season, which is quite a huge projection for the superstar.

It also greatly limits his suitors in the free agency sweepstakes.

Kyle Tucker's massive 10-year, $401M contract projection may limit suitors

With Tucker expected to land a deal worth around $400 million, the top suitors in the sweepstakes could be the New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Los Angeles Dodgers, and the aforementioned Cubs. There’s a chance a team like the San Francisco Giants could swoop in and steal him, but the odds favor the first four teams.

The Cubs have never given out a contract of this nature, so it would be shocking to see them outbid the other teams in this sweepstakes.

But the Yankees and Dodgers would make sense as suitors, even though their payrolls are loaded with big contracts. The Phillies could take a huge shot in free agency, especially if they don’t re-sign Kyle Schwarber.

Either way, the Tucker sweepstakes seem bound to take over the offseason in a similar fashion to Juan Soto last year.
