Trevon Diggs of the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas Cowboys two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Trevon Diggs showed up at the team’s practice facility Wednesday, as coach Brian Schottenheimer began preparations for the team’s road game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. But after missing last weekend’s 44-22 defeat of the Washington Commanders — the first game he sat out all season — Diggs was one of two Cowboys who did not take part in the first practice of the week.

The reason — Diggs remained in the NFL’s concussion protocol for the sixth consecutive day. According to a report by Pro Football Talk, the fact that Diggs remains in the protocol “puts his availability for Sunday in question.”

In his remarks to the media at The Star — the Cowboys’ $2 billion headquarters and practice facility in Frisco, Texas, about 40 miles north of Arlington where the Cowboys play their home games — Schottenheimer confirmed that Diggs was present in the building Wednesday, but did not take part in practice.

Diggs Remains in Concussion Protocol

The coach’s update also included confirmation that Diggs was held out because he is still in the concussion protocol. Otherwise, neither Schottenheimer nor anyone connected to the Cowboys offered any new information.

The circumstances that led to Diggs concussion remained shrouded in mystery, for some reason. Diggs has not yet spoken publicly about it, and Schottenheimer has said only that the 2020 second-round Cowboys draft pick suffered some sort of “accident” at his home on Thursday night.

Schottenheimer also said last Friday that he expected Diggs to be “OK.”

Diggs owns a $4.4 million, 9,787 square-foot mansion in Frisco.

While there has been no independent confirmation that Diggs’ “accident” took place at the six-bedroom, eight-bath “architectural showpiece” — as it was described by Realtor.com — it is also unclear if Diggs has any other “home” in the Dallas area.

Diggs Not Sent Home Wednesday

Perhaps coincidentally, Diggs has been attempting to sell the lavish estate — located just “minutes” from The Star, according to Realtor.com — since July, without success. In August, Diggs dropped the listed price of the home to $4 million.

At Wednesday’s media briefing, Schottenheimer continued to remain reticent about the precise details of Diggs’ home mishap.

On Tuesday, however, owner Jerry Jones said that he had heard the story of what happened to cause the concussion, and Jones said he was “comfortable” with what Diggs told him. Jones did not specify whether Diggs himself told him the details, or if they were conveyed to him through a third party.

What Schottenheimer did not say on Wednesday may have been more informative than what he actually said. Notably, the 52-year-old coach and son of the late Marty Schottenheimer — who coached 21 years in the NFL — did not say that Diggs had been sent home from the practice facility.

When Diggs showed up on Friday, as well as when he returned to The Star on Monday, he was examined by doctors and told to return to his home. That doctors apparently allowed Diggs to remain on site Wednesday could be seen as a sign of progress in the cornerback’s recovery from whatever the household accident that has held him out of action for nearly a week might have been.
