🔥 MVP CASE: Dak Prescott making a strong claim for league’s top honor — stats, impact, and clutch moments all stacking up for a conversation he can’t be ignored in.. ll

Dak Prescott is arguably playing some of the best football of his career right now. It’s become clear through the first six games of the season that the Cowboys are not a very good team. In fact, you could certainly say that Prescott’s play has made them as competitive as they are, in spite of their glaring flaws.

Dallas’ defense is the worst in the NFL, and it’s not particularly close. The Cowboys’ defense ranks dead last in the league in a number of categories, including yards allowed, first downs allowed, and third down conversion rate. Dallas also gives up 30.7 points per game, the second most in the NFL.

With a defense this bad, it’s easy to see how the Cowboys have a mediocre record of 2-3-1. However, things would be even worse if it weren’t for Dak Prescott playing as well as he is.

Dak Is Putting Up Some Of The Best Numbers Of His Career

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott (4) prepares to throw the ball, Sunday, October 5, 2025.

In his 10th season, the former fourth-round pick out of Mississippi State is having one of his best statistical seasons. In six games, Prescott has thrown for 1,617 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions. He’s completing 71.6 percent of his passes, which would be a new career high. Only Jared Goff, Drake Maye, and Daniel Jones have a higher completion percentage this season.

Prescott has played especially well over the past three games, throwing 10 touchdowns and zero interceptions during that span. Despite Prescott’s elevated play, the Cowboys only managed to win one of those three games. Prescott’s recent hot stretch is especially impressive considering that superstar receiver CeeDee Lamb has been absent since Week 3 with a high-ankle sprain.

If Prescott keeps up his current pace, he’ll have a serious chance at surpassing several of his career-highs. His current career-high for touchdown passes in a single season sits at 37, a mark which he hit in 2021, while his best-ever season in terms of passing yards came in 2019 when he threw for 4,902 yards over a 16-game schedule. Furthermore, Prescott’s passer rating this season is an impressive 104.6, a number that is not far behind his career-best mark of 105.9 which was set in 2023.

Will He Enter The MVP Discussion?

As of right now, Dak Prescott’s odds to win MVP sit at +5000 according to FanDuel, behind 11 other players. While it’s highly unlikely that Prescott will actually win the award, he has a solid chance at getting into the conversation if he keeps up his current pace, and there’s no reason to think that he won’t.

CeeDee Lamb is scheduled to return to action in Dallas’ Week 7 game against the Washington Commanders. The combination of Lamb and emerging superstar George Pickens provides Prescott with arguably the best wide receiver duo in the NFL to throw to. Their offensive firepower combined with the ineptitude of their defense offers an ideal scenario for Prescott’s numbers to skyrocket.
