Yankees predicted to trade for $22.5 million Cy Young to create super rotation, would headline with Gerrit Cole | Sporting News

The New York Yankees have realized that most of their pitching power comes from their star-studded rotation. Headlined by Gerrit Cole, Max Fried, and Carlos Rodon, the Yankees can give anyone a hard time in a series.

However, injuries have been a problem in keeping their rotation healthy. If they want to make sure they win it all, they need to use their big payroll to get one more superstar to form a super rotation. Fansided’s Christopher Kline believes they will, and has them trading in a blockbuster for Detroit Tigers Cy Young, Tarik Skubal.

The trade would look like this:

New York Yankees receive: LHP Tarik Skubal

Detroit Tigers receive: SS George Lombard Jr., OF Spencer Jones, RHP Bryce Cunningham, LHP Henry Lalane

“It will be hard for the Detroit Tigers to part with Skubal, but he’s not going to sign a discount extension and losing him for nothing is not an appealing outcome, especially since the Tigers are ill-equipped to meaningfully improve their offense this winter. Detroit flirted with signing Alex Bregman and other big-ticket free agents last offseason, but until it actually happens, this is a quality regular season team with fatal postseason flaws,” Kline wrote.

This season, Skubal posted a record of 13-6, an ERA of 2.21, 241 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.891 over 195 innings pitched. He would be the best pitcher the Yankees have, and they have some of the best in the MLB.

If the Yankees are serious about winning it all in the near future, they’ll think about this deal. Hopefully they do, as they are one of the only teams in baseball with the power to make a rotation like that a reality.
