INSIDER BUZZ: Speculation runs rampant as Orioles fans question the next stop for Brandon Hyde — and some destinations have them speechless

Orioles fans can’t believe where Brandon Hyde might end up next

Brandon Hyde was dismissed as the Baltimore Orioles manager midway through the 2025 season.

After back-to-back trips to the MLB playoffs, Hyde’s team was supposed to contend for the AL East crown this past season.

Instead, he was fired after a 15-28 start and replaced by interim manager Tony Mansolino.

Hyde’s been quite vocal about his firing, and has taken multiple opportunities with the media to blame everyone in the O’s organization except himself for Baltimore’s failures this past season. And while his lack of self-awareness is exceedingly nauseating, it seems to have served him well.

According to reports from the San Francisco Chronicle, Buster Posey has spoken to Hyde as he seeks to replace Bob Melvin as the San Francisco Giants manager. Melvin was dismissed after the 2025 regular season came to a close at the end of September.

Orioles fans can’t believe Brandon Hyde might end up next as the Giants new manager

John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle was quick to point out that Hyde isn’t necessarily a candidate for the Giants’ vacancy.

But as a native of nearby Santa Rosa, California and solid track record, he could be in the mix. Hyde isn’t known to have a close relationship with Posey, but he guided the O’s to three straight winning seasons after losing 110 games in 2021.

Former Major League catcher Nick Hundley is seen as the likely selection to fill the Giants vacancy at the moment. Posey, a former catcher himself, is thought to be targeting former backstops. The Giants haven’t had a consistent voice in the dugout since Bruce Bochy left in 2019.

While Hyde may not be the frontrunner for the Giants’ job, there are plenty of other openings this offseason. San Diego Padres manager Mike Shildt recently announced his retirement, leaving the Friars without a voice in the clubhouse.

In addition to the Giants, Orioles, and Padres, the Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Minnesota Twins, Washington Nationals, and Los Angeles Angels all have vacancies.

The Texas Rangers already replaced Bochy with Skip Schumaker.
