As there was a home run explosion in the New York Yankees’ win over the Kansas City Royals on Saturday, 13-4, star Cody Bellinger would contribute with two dingers of his own. While the Yankees also were led by pitcher Will Warren and his 11 strikeouts, Bellinger would give insight into his approach that led to the two home runs.
New York would end up hitting five home runs in the game against the Royals, two by Bellinger, with the first being a two-run shot in the bottom of the third inning. Bellinger would speak on the emphasis on being aggressive early against pitcher Noah Cameron.
“Yeah, I felt like I liked where I was at my first at-bat. And, you know, I just wanted to continue just taking my swing. And, you know, just whatever happens after that, happens,” Bellinger said, via MLB.com.
The second home run would come in the sixth inning, which drove in two more, as the ball went to right center, with even Bellinger feeling it would go farther as it just got over the wall.
“Thought it was going to go way further than that. I’m not going to lie,” Bellinger said. “So I’m just glad it got out. And the wind was blowing in a little bit today, but glad it got out.”

Mets’ Cody Bellinger on Will Warren’s stellar performance
Along with a single in the bottom of the fourth that drove in a run, Bellinger totaled five RBIs on the afternoon, making it a great game, but the pitching was stellar as well. As mentioned, Warren pitched seven innings, striking out 11 with two earned runs, which garnered the attention of Bellinger.
“Yeah, that was good, that was a great one. Rosie [Rosario] really getting it started there, and then for us, just kind of following suit, Will tying his career high with 11 punchies. So you know, when the pitchers on the mound are doing that, it makes it a little easier for us,” Bellinger said.
At any rate, New York looks to sweep Kansas City in the series, which concludes on Sunday afternoon.
