That game stings for the New York Yankees. Against your top rival, game one of the American League wildcard series, and trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the ninth.

You rally and have a chance to not only tie the game late, but possibly walk off a game in the postseason

After a Paul Goldschmidt lead-off single, followed by an Aaron Judge single, the tying runs were on base. Cody Bellinger then singled to left center, and the bases were loaded. There was no one out.

What happened next is something that will be considered one of the biggest epic fails, and had never been done in MLB postseason history before Tuesday.

No team had ever had the bases loaded and nobody out in the bottom of the 9th inning and not scored a run and lost the game. Yikes.

Giancarlo Stanton struck out. Jazz Chisholm then came up to bat and flew out to right field. Finally, Trent Grisham came up and struck out. After Aroldis Chapman got into trouble, he got right back out and picked up the save.

Garrett Crochet was brilliant, as he went 7.2 innings, allowed just four hits, gave up just a single run, and struck out 11.

Boston got their runs in the 7th inning off a Masataka Yodhisa single and then an Alex Bregman double in the ninth.

The Yankees look to keep their season alive on Wednesday, with Carlos Rodon on the mound.
