Jill Dych\u00e9, executive director of LA-based rescue Outta the Cage, was in the car with one of the organization\u2019s rescue pups, Milo, when she received a phone call with disheartening news. It was Milo\u2019s prospective adopter, and they told Dych\u00e9 they no longer wanted him. Dych\u00e9 was disappointed. But Milo was quick to offer her support. He gently placed his paw on her shoulder as she was driving.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe must\u2019ve seen my face or felt the shift in my energy,\u201d Dych\u00e9 told The Dodo. She shared a photo of Milo\u2019s sweet gesture on Outta the Cage\u2019s Facebook page.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI think he was comforting me,\u201d Dych\u00e9 said. \u201cThat\u2019s the kind of dog he is.\u201d<\/p>\n

Usually, Milo smiles from ear to ear. But, in that moment, his expression was serious: \u201cHe knew something was going on,\u201d Dych\u00e9 said of the empathetic pup.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Milo\u2019s potential adopter decided to back out because her partner wasn\u2019t on board. \u201cWe want everybody in the family to be excited about getting a new dog,\u201d Dych\u00e9 said. While adopters sometimes change their minds, this rejection felt particularly heartbreaking for Dych\u00e9. She knows that it\u2019ll be a challenge for Milo to find a forever home. Black pitties like Milo, in Dych\u00e9\u2019s experience, take longer to be adopted.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s the whole judging a book by its cover thing,\u201d Dych\u00e9 said. \u201cHe might strike people as a scary pitbull. But he\u2019s a big meatball.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Milo was rescued nine months ago. Originally found as a stray, the 3-year-old pup was placed on a euthanasia list at a high-kill shelter. He\u2019s currently being fostered by one of the trainers at Outta the Cage until he finds a permanent home.<\/p>\n

Described by Dych\u00e9 as \u201cunbelievably social,\u201d Milo gets along well with both large and small dogs. He adores children. \u201cHe\u2019s just a very affable, happy dude,\u201d Dych\u00e9 said. He frequently wags his tail and will even tap his feet like he\u2019s dancing when he\u2019s excited.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The playful pup enjoys short neighborhood walks. Recently, Dych\u00e9 took him to her place and found out he likes baths, too. He stood under the warm water, placing his head down so the water would wash over his ears. \u201cYou could tell he loved it,\u201d she said. Afterwards, he sprawled on her chaise lounge like a prince. \u201cIt was so nice seeing him relaxed and having his own agency and just being a dog,\u201d Dych\u00e9 said. “That\u2019s what we want for him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Once Milo finds his forever family, he\u2019ll have plenty of love to give them: \u201cHe\u2019s going to be your best friend,\u201d Dych\u00e9 said.<\/p>\n
