A Boston Red Sox executive has reportedly interviewed for another prominent front office role.<\/p>\n

Assistant general manager Eddie Romero interviewed with the Washington Nationals for their general manager position, per The Athletic\u2019s Ken Rosenthal and Brittany Ghiroli. The Nationals also interviewed Red Sox assistant GM Paul Toboni, who\u2019s seen as a top candidate to become Boston\u2019s new GM.<\/p>\n

Romero joined the Red Sox\u2019s international scouting department in 2006. The Puerto Rican native became the international scouting director in 2012 before the organization made him an assistant GM in 2016.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox signed international prospects such as Rafael Devers, Brayan Bello and Ceddanne Rafaela during his tenure. Alex Cora praised Romero before Thursday\u2019s game, per MassLive\u2019s Chris Cotillo.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s involved in his role, understanding where the game is at and what front offices are all about, in player development,\u201d Cora said. \u201cHe\u2019s a stud in international scouting. Look at what we have, right? The guy who is pitching tonight (Bello), the center fielder (Rafaela). Eddie killed it in that aspect. Now, he has a different role and he\u2019s very open-minded.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Nationals are seeking a new GM after firing Mike Rizzo in July, ending a 19-year run that included a 2019 World Series championship. Mike DeBartolo has replaced Rizzo on an interim basis, and The Athletic said he\u2019s a candidate to maintain the job beyond the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

Washington reportedly wants to select a new general manager and team president by the end of the regular season. That would give those new hires more time to find a new manager, as the Nationals also fired Dave Martinez alongside Rizzo.<\/p>\n
