The Boston Red Sox will attempt to rekindle their struggling lineup with a notable adjustment.<\/p>\n

Alex Cora altered his batting order for Wednesday\u2019s game against the Athletics. Trevor Story will bat No. 2 for the second time this season.<\/p>\n

The shortstop swaps places with third baseman Alex Bregman, who moves from second to third amid a September swoon.<\/p>\n

Jarren Duran leads off against right-handed pitcher Mason Barnett, and designated hitter Masataka Yoshida is the cleanup hitter for the first time since Aug. 17. Second baseman Romy Gonzalez and right fielder Rob Refsnyder typically play against southpaws, but Cora is sticking with his platoon specialists in the fifth and sixth slots.<\/p>\n

First baseman Nathaniel Lowe, catcher Carlos Narv\u00e1ez and center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela round out the lineup card. Lucas Giolito is making his 25th start of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

Cora\u2019s changes comes after Story swiped two more bags on Tuesday, giving him 30 stolen bases without getting caught this season. The 32-year-old is also swinging a hot bat, hitting .353\/.389\/.549 in September and .295\/.341\/.510 since the start of June.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need traffic,\u201d Cora said on \u201cWEEI Afternoons\u201d before Wednesday\u2019s game.<\/p>\n

Bregman, on the other hand, is batting .200 with one home run in 13 games this month. The All-Star is sporting a .718 OPS since returning from a quad injury in July.<\/p>\n

The top of Boston\u2019s lineup has suffered without Roman Anthony, but the playoff contenders are also seeking a run-producing masher. Although a slumping Yoshida isn\u2019t the ideal No. 4 choice while slugging .333, Lowe has cooled down from a red-hot start to his Red Sox tenure.<\/p>\n

Wednesday\u2019s game between the Red Sox and Athletics starts at 6:45 p.m. ET.<\/p>\n
