It’s admittedly hard to envision Kyle Schwarber not wearing a Philadelphia Phillies jersey next season.<\/p>\n
For the last four years, Schwarber has become the ultimate fan favorite in Philadelphia. His 181 home runs since signing with the Phillies are second in all of baseball only to New York Yankees star Aaron Judge, and he’s taken his game to a new level by hitting 50 more of them this season alone (prior to Thursday’s games).<\/p>\n
Schwarber will hit the open market in November, and even as a designated hitter, he should have a boatload of interest because of the power he provides. Is there any shot he leaves?<\/p>\n
The 32-year-old commented on his impending free agency on Thursday, and although he wasn’t in the mood for predictions, he affirmed that he was interested in a return to Philadelphia.<\/p>\n
“If something works out here, it works out here. There’s interest on both sides,” Schwarber told Jon Heyman of the New York Post. “I’m sure whenever we get to the end of the year, and hopefully it’s us holding a trophy at the end, I’m sure there’ll be conversations.<\/p>\n
“Sometimes hopes and dreams don’t turn out the way they’re meant to be.”<\/p>\n
In the same piece from Heyman, Phillies president of baseball operations David Dombrowski gave an even more enthusiastic quote about a potential Schwarber reunion.<\/p>\n
“We want to retain him now, and we wanted to retain him then,” Dombrowski told Heyman, referring to talks between the two sides last offseason that ultimately resulted in no new deal.<\/p>\n
In addition to the 50 long balls, Schwarber has a .241\/.368\/.562 slash line entering play on Thursday, while leading the majors with 123 RBI. The price tag is only going up with every blast he hits.<\/p>\n
