The Patriots are activating defensive tackle Christian Barmore from the non-football illness list on Saturday, according to a source.<\/p>\n

Barmore is expected to play Sunday against the Rams despite practicing just once since July.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old defensive tackle was diagnosed with blood clots early in training camp. He began the season on the non-football illness list and missed the first 10 weeks of the season.<\/p>\n

Barmore returned to practice\u00a0Thursday. He didn\u2019t participate in Friday\u2019s practice since he must be limited from exertion in back-to-back days as he weans off of blood thinners.<\/p>\n

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said Friday that there was a chance that Barmore could play this week. He also said \u201cthe expectation is there is no expectation\u201d for Barmore as he recovers from a serious condition.<\/p>\n

Barmore joins Davon Godchaux, Daniel Ekuale, Jeremiah Pharms, Jaquelin Roy and Eric Johnson on the Patriots\u2019 defensive tackle depth chart.<\/p>\n

The team released wide receiver Tyquan Thornton from the 53-man roster to make room for Barmore. The team also could activate cornerback Alex Austin from injured reserve, though they would have to open up another spot on the 53-man roster.<\/p>\n

Barmore was one of the Patriots\u2019 best defensive players last season, tallying 8.5 sacks, and was rewarded with a four-year, $84 million extension in April.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
