Entering September, they are firmly out of the playoff picture — or even out of realistic contention for .500. Overall, Charlotte’s OPS (.781) ranks third out of 20 International League teams, but its ERA (5.46) is 18th.

Outfielder Dominic Fletcher was a jack of all trades in August, providing strong defense in center field while leading the team in OPS among players with at least 60 at-bats. Fletcher has been a solid contributor for the Knights, positing a .263/.319/.459 (94 wRC+) while spending most of his time in the field in a premium position. In 100 games at the highest level, Fletcher has posted a .234/.281/.310 (63 wRC+) slash line across the 2023 and 2024 seasons. Mainly due to the subpar slash line, Fletcher has been worth -0.2 fWAR in the majors. However, Fletcher still has time to right the ship, and he is trending in the right direction.

2025 Charlotte Knights Players of the Month
Tim Elko (March-April)
Kyle Teel (May)
Brooks Baldwin (June)
Yoendrys Gómez (July)
Dominic Fletcher (August)

Birmingham Barons
August record 16-11 Overall record 75-51

Barons Player of the Month
Tyler Schweitzer 0.00 ERA, 21 IP, 3 BB, 11 K

William Bergolla .250/.310/.250, 0 HR, 5 RBI, 8-for-11 stolen bases, 92 at-bats
Braden Montgomery .315/.400/.457, 0 HR, 9 RBI, 92 at-bats
Sam Antonacci .271/.407/.329, 0 HR, 10 RBI, 10-for-11 stolen bases, 85 at-bats
Rikuu Nishida .245/.309/.367, 0 HR, 5 RBI, 85 at-bats
Wilfred Veras .253/.296/.414, 2 HR, 17 RBI, 99 at-bats
Caden Connor .318/.430/.439, 0 HR, 6 RBI, 66 at-bats

Tanner McDougal 3.00 ERA, 15 IP, 2 BB, 16 K
Hagen Smith 3.57 ERA, 22 2⁄3 IP, 14 BB, 26 K
Riley Gowens 2.19 ERA, 24 2⁄3 IP, 9 BB, 27 K
Tyler Davis 0.84 ERA, 10 2/3 IP, 4 BB, 16 K
Shane Murphy 1.44 ERA, 25 IP, 3 BB, 15 K

The Barons finally cooled down a bit at the tail end of the month, but they are still dominant in the second half, leading the Southern League with a 37-20 record.

Once again, a Barons starter put up jaw-dropping numbers. Shane Murphy, 24, could have pulled off a three-peat, as he was fantastic once again. But incredibly, fellow 24-year-old Tyler Schweitzer was even better. Schweitzer is on a hot streak of epic proportions, as he did not allow any runs in 21 innings in August. In addition, Schweitzer’s final 10 2/3 innings in July were scoreless, so his streak of shutout innings has increased to 31 2/3. Opposing hitters only posted a .178 batting average against Schweitzer in August, and he only issued three walks. Schweitzer has pitched 91 2/3 innings this season (50 with Charlotte, 41 2/3 with Birmingham). With Birmingham, Schweitzer has been from a different planet. In those 41 2/3 innings, Schweitzer has allowed exactly zero earned runs, and his FIP is only 2.23. Triple-A has been quite a challenge, as he posted a 7.92 ERA and a 6.89 FIP there, but at this rate, Schweitzer will be back up soon.

2025 Birmingham Barons Players of the Month
Andrew Dalquist (March-April)
Jake Palisch (May)
Shane Murphy (June)
Shane Murphy (July)
Tyler Schweitzer (August)

Winston-Salem Dash
August record 15-12 Overall record 53-71

Dash Player of the Month
Jeral Perez .340/.402/.534, 4 HR, 13 RBI, 103 at-bats

Samuel Zavala .296/.395/.408, 2 HR, 11 RBI, 3-for-4 stolen bases, 98 at-bats
Alec Makarewicz .216/.272/.412, 4 HR, 19 RBI, 102 at-bats
Ryan Burrowes .250/.333/.359, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 8-for-9 stolen bases, 64 at-bats
Lyle Miller-Green .178/.229/.400, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 45 at-bats
Caleb Bonemer .333/.455/.889, 2 HR, 4 RBI, 18 at-bats (debuted with Winston-Salem on August 26)

Dylan Cumming 5.32 ERA, 22 IP, 2 BB, 23 K
Christian Oppor 1.35 ERA, 20 IP, 7 BB, 25 K
Lucas Gordon 3.54 ERA, 20 1/3 IP, 10 BB, 18 K
Frankeli Arias 3.66 ERA, 19 2/3 IP, 6 BB, 16 K
Carson Jacobs 1.64 ERA, 11 IP, 3 BB, 18 K

The Dash had their best month of the season, finishing 15-12 to escape the basement of the South Atlantic League.

Second baseman Jeral Perez, 20, had an impressive performance in August, finishing with a .936 OPS to lead all Dash hitters with a serious amount of playing time. The White Sox acquired Perez in July 2024 in the Erick Fedde trade, and his development is coming along nicely. Especially given his age, Perez, who has been one of Winston-Salem’s top contributors, is ahead of schedule. During his 11 2/3 innings, Mendez only allowed seven hits, and he racked up 14 strikeouts while only issuing four walks. Mendez’s season was heading the wrong direction entering the month, but the tides turned in a big way. Mendez had pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings in the Arizona Complex League, but he had allowed 18 earned runs in 18 innings with Kannapolis.
