\nIt all began as a joke.The day I got her, she was tiny\u2014just the size of my forearm\u2014with big ears and clumsy paws. I went to the pet store to buy a few things and put her in the shopping cart for fun and took a picture. She seemed to love it, sitting proudly like a little queen. I posted the photo online with a silly caption like \u201cShe already owns me.\u201d Everyone thought it was adorable.<\/p>\n

I thought it was just a one-time thing.<\/p>\n

But after that, every time we went back to that store, she wouldn\u2019t walk in on her own. She\u2019d stop at the entrance and look at me like, \u201cYou know what to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

She grew fast\u2014really fast.<\/p>\n

We ended up sitting on a bench outside the store near the parking lot. Daisy somehow fit across both our laps, even though she was huge. The man told me his name was Walter and said he\u2019d raised her since she was just eight weeks old. They were always together\u2014until he got too sick to care for her.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe was my best friend,\u201d he said, gently stroking her fur. \u201cAfter my wife passed away five years ago, she helped me get through it. But then\u2026 well, you know the rest.\u201d<\/p>\n

He smiled a little. \u201cYeah, that sounds like her.\u201d<\/p>\n

When we said goodbye, we agreed to stay in touch. Walter said he\u2019d visit, as long as Daisy was okay with it\u2014and from the way she wagged her tail when he left, I think she would be. I also decided to bring her back to the store more often\u2014not because it was funny, but because it clearly meant something to her.<\/p>\n

That night, while looking through old pictures of Daisy in shopping carts, something hit me: life brings the right people\u2014and pets\u2014together at the right time. Sometimes it\u2019s for a long time, sometimes just a moment, but it always leaves a mark.<\/p>\n
