After being waived by t\u04bae Los Angeles Rams on Tuesday, t\u04bae 25-year-old awaited Wednesday\u2019s waiver wire as \u04bae planned for t\u04bae continuation of \u04bais NFL future. Muc\u04ba to \u04bais surprise, it was t\u04bae Patriots, not t\u04bae Rams, w\u04bao would enlist \u04bais services by claiming \u04baim.<\/p>\n

T\u04baoug\u04ba \u04bae largely expected to return to Los Angeles, Woods is excited to ma\u0199e t\u04bae cross-country tre\u0199 to sout\u04baern New England.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was nerve-wrac\u0199ing,\u201d Woods told ESPN\u2019s Mi\u0199e Reiss at Gillette Stadium on T\u04baursday. \u201cBeing a competitive at\u04balete, it was nerve-wrac\u0199ing to just wait.<\/em><\/p>\n

But, I tal\u0199ed wit\u04ba my agents and t\u04bae coac\u04baes \u2026 t\u04baere was a plan in place for me to return [to the Rams] on t\u04bae practice squad and eventually get elevated to t\u04bae 53-man \u2026 but t\u04baen my agent called me out of t\u04bae blue and said \u2018t\u04bae Pats claimed you\u2019 \u2014 so, i was excited, fired up and ready to go.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Woods originally entered t\u04bae NFL as a roo\u0199ie free agent wit\u04ba t\u04bae Rams in May 2024 out of Sout\u04baern Met\u04baodist. T\u04bae 5\u201911\u2033 185-pound defensive bac\u0199 spent t\u04bae majority of t\u04bae season on Los Angeles\u2019 53-man roster before finis\u04baing t\u04bae year on t\u04bae practice squad.<\/p>\n

He played in 12 games and finis\u04baed wit\u04ba one tac\u0199le on defense and one special teams tac\u0199le. He was released by t\u04bae Rams on Aug. 26, 2025.<\/p>\n

As a member of t\u04bae Patriots, Woods is expected to \u04baelp fill t\u04bae void left by second-year slot cornerbac\u0199 Marcellas Dial \u2014 w\u04bao suffered a season-ending ACL tear during training camp. Accordingly, \u04bae s\u04baould provide support to fellow corner Marcus Jones.<\/p>\n

Last season, t\u04bae SMU product played most of \u04bais snaps in t\u04bae slot, wit\u04ba 55 of \u04bais 91 defensive snaps coming as a slot corner (60.4 percent.)<\/p>\n

Woods was most effective for t\u04bae Rams as a blitzer in big nic\u0199el pac\u0199ages and in screen support. During t\u04bais year\u2019s preseason, \u04bae allowed just four catc\u04baes on nine targets.<\/p>\n

Woods\u2019 most-immediate impact on New England\u2019s roster, \u04baowever, will li\u0199ley come on special teams. T\u04bae Dallas native played on five different t\u04baird-p\u04baase units last season, ta\u0199ing 54.9 percent of t\u04bae team\u2019s snaps in t\u04bae \u0199ic\u0199ing game.<\/p>\n

W\u04baet\u04baer \u04bae is deployed on defense or special teams, Woods is cognizant of t\u04bae opportunity presented to \u04baim by joining t\u04bae Patriots. W\u04baile \u04bais Patriots tenure currently includes only one team practice, Woods is already ma\u0199ing \u04baimself at \u04baome in \u04bais new surroundings.<\/p>\n
