<\/p>\nThe Baltimore Orioles officially released veteran right-handed pitcher Matt Bowman on Friday, per the MLB.com transaction log. Bowman, 34, was designated for assignment by the team earlier this week.<\/p>\n

He then cleared waivers and was released to free agency.<\/p>\n
Cubs Pitcher Elects to Leave Organization, Head to Free Agency Bowman joined the Orioles organization in August 2024 on a minor league deal.<\/p>\n
He made 15 appearances in 2024, sporting a solid 3.45 ERA across 15.2 innings.<\/p>\n
After the 2024 season, he re-upped with Baltimore on another minor league pact. Bowman has been up and down with the organization this year, spending time with both the big league club and Triple-A Norfolk.<\/p>\n
At the major league level, Bowman made 20 appearances, sporting a 6.20 ERA across 24.2 innings with 18 strikeouts, 17 earned runs and a WHIP of 1.500.<\/p>\n

If he doesn’t sign with a team before Sept. 1, he won’t be eligible to pitch in the postseason. However, considering his struggles this year, it’s hard to imagine he would factor into any team’s postseason picture.<\/p>\n
Matt Bowman Career Bowman was initially drafted by the New York Mets in the 13th round of the 2012 MLB Draft. The right-hander was then taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the Rule 5 draft, and debuted in 2016.<\/p>\n
Phillies Release $4 Million Veteran Pitcher in Major Roster Move After emerging as a solid reliever in 2016 and 2017, Bowman struggled in 2018 and joined the Cincinnati Reds in 2019.<\/p>\n
He then underwent Tommy John surgery in September 2020, and recovered while with the New York Yankees organization. Since 2024, Bowman has bounced around the league, spending time with the Minnesota Twins, Arizona Diamondbacks, Seattle Mariners and Orioles.<\/p>\n
Now, he’ll look for his next organization where he’ll likely hope to find some stability.<\/p>\n
Overall, across his seven-year career, Bowman has made 231 appearances at the major league level. He has accrued a 4.38 ERA across 240.2 innings with 194 strikeouts.<\/p>\n
Bowman has five pitches in his arsenal, mainly relying on a sinker, cutter and changeup while also mixing in a split finger and four-seam fastball.<\/p>\n
