They landed a huge trade for Garrett Crochet before turning their attention to free agency.<\/p>\n<p>Boston won the Alex Bregman sweepstakes, but in doing so, it had to give him an opt-out clause after the first year of his deal. While this was an overlooked aspect of the contract at the time, it&#8217;s quickly become a huge storyline.<\/p>\n<p>MLB&#8217;s Mark Feinsand recently\u00a0suggested that the Red Sox star\u00a0could look to opt out of his deal in the offseason. The Red Sox&#8217;s biggest fear could soon become a reality.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Bregman inked a three-year, $120 million deal with the Red Sox last February, though $60 million of that salary is deferred,&#8221; Feinsand wrote. &#8220;Although he&#8217;s played in only 85 games due to injuries, Bregman has played well (16 home runs, 53 RBIs, .922 OPS) when he&#8217;s been on the field. It&#8217;s unclear whether Bregman will find an AAV that high out there, so opting out might be risky, though many believe he will leverage the opt-out clause into a reworked, longer-term deal with Boston.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Could the New York Yankees steal Bregman from the Red Sox?<\/p>\n<p>The initial thought is yes because the Yankees need a third baseman, and they have the money. What&#8217;s stopping them?<\/p>\n<p>Last offseason, the Yankees reportedly didn&#8217;t even entertain the idea of going after Bregman. Instead, they filled the hole at third base internally.<\/p>\n<p>Bregman has been a rival of the Yankees for nearly a decade now.
