Braves\u2019 John Smoltz drops \u2018mind-blowing\u2019 take about Bobby Cox\u2019s rare appearance<\/h3>\n

Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz was glad to see former Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox as the team celebrated their 1995 World Series win.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The\u00a0Atlanta Braves were once considered one of baseball\u2019s most consistent franchises.\u00a0Former manager Bobby Cox demanded toughness from his players.\u00a0Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz\u00a0recently credited him for boasting this same attribute.The Braves celebrated the 30-year anniversary of their 1995 World Series victory, and Cox was\u00a0in attendance\u00a0despite his ongoing health challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat a beautiful evening in Atlanta where they celebrated the 30-year anniversary of their 1995 World Series championship Friday highlighted by Hall of Fame manager Bobby Cox making a rare appearance,\u201d USA Today\u2019s Bob Nightengale wrote. \u201cCox, surrounded by family members, stood up from his wheelchair in a suite and received a thunderous ovation. It was only Cox\u2019s third visit to the stadium since suffering a severe stroke at the beginning of the 2019 season that left his right side paralyzed with difficulty speaking.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s the toughest son of a gun I\u2019ve ever seen,\u2019\u2019 Smoltz said. \u201cThe fact he is here just blows my mind.\u2019\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n

Cox spent 25 seasons as Atlanta\u2019s manager and helped lead the club to five National League crowns during his tenure. Their 1995 World Series win over the Cleveland Indians represented a major milestone during his run at the helm.<\/p>\n

Despite years of dominance in the regular season, Cox and the Braves were not able to replicate 1995 in the years\u00a0that followed.
\n\u201cIt’s great seeing everybody, but obviously seeing Bobby is kind of icing on the cake,\u201d former pitcher Tom Glavine told MLB.com. \u201cWe all know it’s not easy for him to get here.
