The Chicago White Sox have won the finale of this three game set against the Minnesota Twins in shutout fashion this afternoon, 8-0. An all-around game from the offense, defense and pitching helped secure a series win against the Twins this afternoon, as a 12-hit performance and early offensive surge sparked the win.<\/p>\n
It was Taj Bradley, recently acquired by the Twins, making his first start with the team this afternoon \u2014 a debut that was evidently spoiled from the start. In the bottom of the first inning, the White Sox went to work as Mike Tauchman and Miguel Vargas led off the game with back-to-back singles. Kyle Teel continued to trend, hitting an RBI single to right to score the first run.<\/p>\n
With two outs and the bases loaded, Edgar Quero added two more on a single up the middle to continue his solid efforts at the plate, especially with RISP.<\/p>\n
This gave an early cushion to Yoendrys G\u00f3mez for the South Siders \u2014 not that he\u2019d need it. The scoring continued in the bottom of the second inning as Tauchman and Vargas reached again, and Teel singled once more for the deja vu and the fourth run of the game.<\/p>\n
WIth Luis Robert Jr. at the plate, the double play turn was unsuccessful after a throwing error at second by Luke Keschall, scoring another run and allowing Robert Jr. to reach safely at first.<\/p>\n
Vargas would score, and Colson Montgomery would make them pay, as he launched yet again another home run, his 13th of the season, to right field.<\/p>\n
This was an absolute moonshot, and Montgomery doesn\u2019t seem to be showing any signs of slowing down. He hits his 13th of the season in just two months since being called up, immediately following his first grand slam yesterday. He now has three home runs in three consecutive games. This gave the team the quick 7-0 lead, which would carry them the rest of the way.<\/p>\n
Robert had his first defensive gem of the day, in the top of the third inning, to take away a hit from Trevor Larnach.<\/p>\n
Oh wait, there\u2019s another, too. Here\u2019s Luis in the top of the fifth inning taking away a hit from Austin Martin:<\/p>\n
G\u00f3mez had a terrific day on the mound, which seems to be a trend for him ever since rejoining the White Sox and taking on a rotation role. He gave way to the bullpen in the top of the fifth inning with two on, but not before going 4 2\/3 innings with just two hits, three walks, and six strikeouts, as his ERA moves down to 4.73.<\/p>\n
G\u00f3mez gave way to the bullpen, which shut it down the rest of the way, including appearances from Brandon Eisert, Mike Vasil, and Wikelman Gonz\u00e1lez. Plus, in the bottom of the seventh inning the South Siders added onto their existing 7-0 lead with another run, as Teel singled and Montgomery reached base due to an error by Keaschall, again. Quero continued his great hitting, with a single to center for the cherry on top, and the 8-0 lead.<\/p>\n
The Twins went down 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth, securing the great team win for the White Sox. Robert Jr. ended the game with a catch in center field, which was fitting for the day. He had some words after the game about his overall feelings:<\/p>\n
They\u2019ll have a chance at redemption starting tomorrow night against the Kansas City Royals, in the fourth game of this 10-game home stand. It will be Shane Smith on the mound at 6:40 p.m. CT as they look to reverse whatever curse it is against those Royals.<\/p>\n
