The New England Patriots are fully invested in their new quarterback.<\/p>\n

Filling Tom Brady\u2019s shoes will be a heroic task for any quarterback in the league, especially for one who\u2019s about to enter his first full season as a starter.<\/p>\n

However, the Patriots don\u2019t need Drake Maye to be the second coming of Tom Brady; they just need him to lead.<\/p>\n

And according to former defensive tackle Vince Wilfork, that\u2019s about to happen.<\/p>\n

In a recent appearance on the \u201cPatriots Talk Podcast,\u201d the former DT predicted that Maye would soon take the reins of the locker room.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s gonna happen\u2026 Drake\u2019s saying to himself, \u2018This only my second year in, I\u2019m still young.\u2019 But he have a head coach telling him, \u2018No no no no, you are the future of this franchise. You are our face, so you have to [be a leader].\u2019 I think he will learn that. I don\u2019t think he\u2019ll lack in that area, but it\u2019s learning how to,\u201d Wilfork said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Maye has turned plenty of heads since he arrived in the league last season, and not only because of his evident physical tools.<\/p>\n

He was ahead of schedule last season in terms of taking ownership of the offense, and everybody in the building rallied behind him, even when things weren\u2019t going his way.<\/p>\n

The Patriots have gone to great lengths to make sure he\u2019s in a position to succeed in his second year in the league, and while there were some early reports about struggles in training camp, he\u2019s also drawn plenty of praise for his relentless work ethic.<\/p>\n

Quarterbacks are usually natural-born leaders, and Maye isn\u2019t the exception to that rule.<\/p>\n

So as young as he may be, and as much as Tom Brady\u2019s shadow looms over Patriots quarterbacks, he will be expected to take the bull by the horns and be the face and voice of this franchise right out of the gate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/article>\n
