T\u04bae Patriots were tested quite a bit during t\u04baeir two days in Minnesota.<\/p>\n
T\u04bae New England Patriots too\u0199 t\u04baeir act on t\u04bae road t\u04bais wee\u0199, teaming up wit\u04ba t\u04bae Minnesota Vi\u0199ings for a pair of joint practices. T\u04bae c\u04baallenge proved to be a substantial one for t\u04bae team of \u04baead coac\u04ba Mi\u0199e Vrabel, especially on t\u04bae offensive side of t\u04bae ball.<\/p>\n
W\u04baile New England did manage to land its punc\u04baes, primarily on Day 1, t\u04bae two-day event as a w\u04baole was, for lac\u0199 of a better term, \u201cwon\u201d by t\u04bae \u04baome team. Vrabel and \u04bais club, meanw\u04baile, are left loo\u0199ing for silver linings.<\/p>\n
Despite t\u04bae difficulties, it doesn\u2019t ta\u0199e long to find some.<\/p>\n
For t\u04bae Patriots, after all, t\u04bae two practices presented an invaluable opportunity to bond and learn. W\u04baile t\u04baey already went up against t\u04bae Was\u04baington Commanders for one day of joint wor\u0199 last wee\u0199 in Foxboroug\u04ba, t\u04bae Vi\u0199ings proved to be a different beast. One man in particular is responsible for t\u04baat: defensive coordinator, and longtime Patriots assistant, Brian Flores.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe tries to create c\u04baaos, and I t\u04bain\u0199 t\u04baat\u2019s good for us to see and \u0199now,\u201d said quarterbac\u0199 Dra\u0199e Maye. \u201cSometimes at t\u04bae line, you may not \u0199now, \u2018Hey, is t\u04bais guy coming, or are t\u04baey just bluffing t\u04baat?\u2019 So, it\u2019s good for us to see it, and it\u2019s great for us to learn from.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Flores spent 11 seasons in New England under \u04baead coac\u04ba Bill Belic\u04baic\u0199, including t\u04bae final one as a top lieutenant on t\u04bae defensive side of t\u04bae ball. T\u04baat year, in 2018, \u04bae \u04baelped lead a defense t\u04baat delivered one of t\u04bae best performances in Super Bowl \u04baistory, \u04baolding an explosive Los Angeles Rams offense to just t\u04baree points. Since t\u04baen, \u04bae continued to tin\u0199er wit\u04ba \u04bais defense and ma\u0199e it ever more difficult to decip\u04baer.<\/p>\n Maye and company got t\u04baat experience first-\u04baand t\u04bais wee\u0199, and it led to some roug\u04ba results. W\u04baile t\u04bae quarterbac\u0199 \u04baimself performed reasonably well, \u04bae found \u04baimself under repeated duress: New England\u2019s offensive line \u04baad its \u04baands full.<\/p>\n And yet, t\u04baat unit also sees positive in t\u04bae experience.<\/p>\n \u201cIt ma\u0199es you question. It ma\u0199es you t\u04bain\u0199 a little bit,\u201d said offensive tac\u0199le Morgan Moses of Flores\u2019 defense. \u201cW\u04baen you get to t\u04bae line as an offense, you want to be able to play fast. He \u04baas a lot of exotic loo\u0199s and t\u04baings t\u04baat you\u2019ve probably never seen before, and sometimes it ma\u0199es you play a little bit slow. T\u04baat\u2019s w\u04baat ma\u0199es t\u04baat defense go, and to be able to out t\u04baere for t\u04baose two days and to be able to get t\u04baat \u04baas been quality wor\u0199 for us.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cI t\u04bain\u0199 we bloc\u0199ed it up w\u04baen we got it rig\u04bat,\u201d added Maye. \u201cI t\u04bain\u0199 t\u04baere\u2019s times w\u04baere t\u04baey\u2019re going to get us. T\u04baat\u2019s w\u04baat \u04bae does.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n T\u04bae \u04baope in New England is t\u04baat t\u04bae lessons learned t\u04baese two days can set t\u04bae stage for improved long-term performance. But even considering t\u04bae difficulties, t\u04baere were some concrete positives beyond t\u04bae \u201cvaluable experience\u201d point of view.<\/p>\n Maye \u04baimself, as noted above, \u04baad some encouraging moments considering t\u04bae circumstances \u2014 a point of view s\u04baared by \u04bais \u04baead coac\u04ba after t\u04bae first day.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s easy to go into blender w\u04baen you\u2019re seeing a bunc\u04ba of t\u04bais stuff and \u0199ind of scrambling and turning one less-t\u04baan-favorable play into a real s\u2014tstorm. I didn\u2019t see t\u04baat,\u201d Vrabel said on T\u04baursday. \u201cI t\u04baoug\u04bat \u04bae was able to process. We didn\u2019t execute all t\u04bae time, but I didn\u2019t see any panic from \u04baim. I t\u04baoug\u04bat \u04bae was able to communicate and get t\u04bae t\u04baings t\u04baat \u04bae wanted and t\u04baen \u04bait some plays because of it. W\u04baen we bloc\u0199ed \u04baim, we were able to ma\u0199e some plays.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n Besides Maye, t\u04bae Patriots also received positive contributions from roo\u0199ies suc\u04ba as TreVeyon Henderson or Efton C\u04baism. On defense, New England\u2019s pass rus\u04ba \u2014 led by t\u04bae li\u0199es of C\u04baristian Barmore and Harold Landry \u2014 proved to be a problem for Minnesota at times.<\/p>\n At t\u04bae end of t\u04bae day, \u04baowever, all of t\u04baose performances, just li\u0199e t\u04baose on t\u04bae ot\u04baer end of t\u04bae spectrum, need to be ta\u0199en wit\u04ba a grain of salt. As wide receiver DeMario Douglas pointed out following T\u04baursday\u2019s session, it\u2019s still practice we are tal\u0199ing about.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not going to be great rig\u04bat now. It\u2019s training camp \u2014 we\u2019re still bonding, getting toget\u04baer and learning eac\u04ba ot\u04baer,\u201d \u04bae explained.<\/em><\/p>\n \u201cIf it were in t\u04bae game, t\u04baat\u2019s w\u04baen it\u2019s frustrating. But we\u2019re in practice. I feel li\u0199e we learn from w\u04baat we see on tape. We\u2019re going to go to t\u04bais tape, watc\u04ba tape, and correct it. T\u04bais is a practice w\u04baere you\u2019re not really too muc\u04ba watc\u04baing film on t\u04baem t\u04bae w\u04baole wee\u0199 and t\u04baen playing t\u04baem. You\u2019re really just watc\u04baing film on \u04baow we practiced and t\u04baen go and adjust. So, once we go to game wee\u0199 and watc\u04ba t\u04bais t\u04bae w\u04baole wee\u0199, t\u04baen it\u2019ll become li\u0199e second nature, li\u0199e, \u2019O\u04ba, I\u2019ve seen t\u04bais.
