With a 53-68 record this season, there hasn’t been a lot to celebrate when it comes to the Atlanta Braves in 2025. Their entire Opening Day rotation is on the injured list along with Austin Riley, Joe Jimenez, and\u00a0Ronald Acu\u00f1a Jr., though the latter is mercifully returning on Friday from his second stint at least. While the Braves’ season was functionally over in terms of contending for the postseason a while ago, it appears as though they are taking the Mets with them.<\/p>\n

Unlike Atlanta, the Mets are in the running for a playoff spot, but they have been in a tailspin lately. After\u00a0losing the series against the Braves\u00a0on Thursday, New York has lost 13 of their last 15 games and are on the cusp of being on the outside of the playoff picture altogether. You just love to see it.<\/p>\n

In even better news, if the Mets do end up missing the postseason, the Braves likely played a big hand in it and we aren’t just talking about this past series.<\/p>\n

Braves’ dominance of Mets could cost New York a playoff appearance and that is just delightful<\/h2>\n

One series in August isn’t that big a deal in the grand scheme of things, although it did come during a stretch where the\u00a0Mets desperately needed a strong performance\u00a0at home. However, it is Atlanta’s absolute domination of New York this season despite the Braves’ struggles could haunt the Mets when the dust settles.<\/p>\n

The Braves are 7-3 against the Mets this season. With just a half game lead for the last NL Wild Card spot at the moment, New York falling on their faces against Atlanta in 2025 has been the difference between a comfortable playoff position and the high wire act the Mets currently find themselves in. Making things even better (hopefully), the Mets have to travel to Atlanta in a week and the Braves will have Acu\u00f1a Jr. back in the lineup to give the\u00a0resurgent Michael Harris II\u00a0a hand.<\/p>\n

The season series between the Braves and Mets won’t end up having the same playoff implications that we all thought it would at the beginning of the season. However, that doesn’t mean that Atlanta can’t snuff out New York’s playoff ambitions and based on how this season has gone, the odds are good that it could happen.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
