MIAMI (AP) \u2014 The New York Yankees released veteran right-hander Marcus Stroman on Friday, a day after making a flurry of moves at baseball\u2019s trade deadline.<\/p>\n

The Yankees acquired All-Star relievers David Bednar and Camilo Doval, as well as utilityman Jos\u00e9 Caballero in separate trades Thursday. New York also optioned right-handers Ian Hamilton and Yerry de los Santos to Triple-A Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre to make room on the 26-man roster.<\/p>\n

The Yankees’ new pieces had less-than-ideal debuts in Friday’s 13-12 loss at Miami, where New York blew multiple big leads.<\/p>\n

Bednar allowed four hits and two earned runs \u2014 including a home run \u2014 in 1 2\/3 innings. Doval took the loss after blowing a save opportunity with the Yankees leading in the ninth. Marlins All-Star Kyle Stowers hit a grand slam off reliever Jake Bird, who was added from Colorado. And Caballero had a costly error in right field in the ninth that allowed the Marlins to score two runs and tie the game.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s part of being a reliever,\u201d Bednar said. \u201cSometimes stuff like that happens. It\u2019s all about how you respond and how you\u2019re able to bounce back.\u201d<\/p>\n

Doval added that he thought he executed his pitches well.<\/p>\n

\u201cThings did not come out like I wanted,\u201d he said in Spanish. “That is something you can\u2019t control.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stroman, who is in his 11th season in the majors, was cut ahead of the opener of a three-game series against the Marlins and is owed about $5.7 million.<\/p>\n

\u201cObviously, that was tough today,\u201d Yankees manager Aaron Boone said before the game. \u201cThe perception around Stro for us, if you got to be around him the last couple of years, he\u2019s an awesome competitor.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stroman signed a two-year deal worth $37 million with New York before the start of last season and is owed $5,709,677 of his $18 million salary this year. Any team can sign him for a prorated share of the $760,000 minimum.<\/p>\n

His contract included an $18 million conditional player option for 2026 that could have been exercised if he pitched 140 or more innings in 2025. Stroman pitched only 39 innings so far this season \u2014 he missed 2 1\/2 months with left knee inflammation.<\/p>\n

Boone said Stroman took the news of his release like \u201ca pro.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHad a good interaction with him,” Boone said. “I feel he\u2019ll be a guy I\u2019ll stay in touch with for the rest of our lives. Appreciative of him.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stroman made his ninth start of the season against the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday, picking up the win after allowing four runs and six hits in five innings.<\/p>\n

Stroman is 3-2 with a 6.23 ERA.<\/p>\n
