The Baltimore Orioles are\u00a0slated to be one of MLB’s busiest teams this trade deadline. As one of the teams that\u00a0has an abundance of pending free agents\u00a0that are likely to get moved, Mike Elias is likely very busy fielding calls right now. However, there are a few Orioles that have appeared to be off limits, but may not be as safe as fans thinks.<\/p>\n
Again, the Orioles front office has tried to downplay any suggestion of trading players with multiple years of control. Baltimore wants to put forth an image that they are just resetting a little bit this year and fully intend on competing for a playoff spot in 2026 and beyond. Still, it does feel like there are some names who are under contract for longer than this season that could get moved.<\/p>\n
While the odds are certainly lower than any of these guys get traded than those who are free agents at the end of the season, that doesn’t mean the Orioles aren’t going to listen to offers on these guys. In one case here, the player in question has already been in a number of trade rumors despite public denials that he is even available. Here is who could be surprising departures from the Orioles at the trade deadline.<\/p>\n
Rogers may be the most unlikely of the trade options\u00a0here given the state of the Orioles’ rotation.<\/p>\n
Rogers is under team control via arbitration through the 2026 season and Baltimore honestly can use all the quality starting pitching they can get their hands on.<\/p>\n
However, the “prize” of last year’s deadline would be extremely appealing to contenders in need of pitching depth and Baltimore hasn’t been hanging up the phone when teams have asked about him.<\/p>\n
It would likely require a massive package of near MLB ready talent to pry him away, but it could happen.<\/p>\n
Bautista has been in a popular trade target\u00a0this year despite the Orioles’ reluctance to move him and when their is smoke, there is fire.<\/p>\n
As good as Bautista is and even with Baltimore wanting to compete next year, relievers are so volatile that trading them before they crater is often the smartest move to make. Again, the Orioles shouldn’t be pressured to move him, but his position with Baltimore is anything but certain.<\/p>\n
Finally, we come to\u00a0Ryan Mountcastle who has been out with a hamstring injury since the end of May. Mountcastle isn’t a free agent until after the 2026 season, but the Orioles don’t exactly have a shortage of power bats of questionable defensive utility and uncertain long-term projections. Given the lack of impact bats on the trade market right now and given that Mountcastle should be ready to return, at minimum, shortly after the trade deadline, making him available in talks could be a boon for Baltimore.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
