<\/main>Miami Marlins pitcher Edward Cabrera has been one of the better surprises in the league. But there’s a chance he ends up on the trade block in the coming days.<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Jeff Passan recently discussed Cabrera as a potential trade chip. Though Passan doesn’t see a deal as likely, he believes it’s a possibility. Passan suggested the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs\u00a0could be two of the “best fits” in a deal\u00a0for the young Marlins righty.<\/p>\n

“All the potential the Marlins have seen in the 27-year-old right-hander is finally coming into focus this season,” Passan wrote. “While his 97 mph fastball gets hitters’ attention, it’s Cabrera’s curveball and slider doing most of the work. And with a changeup that in years past has been his best pitch, Cabrera will be pricey because of the full arsenal and three more years of club control.”<\/p>\n

e Red Sox need to add any starting pitcher they can get their hands on. Boston could look to package together a few top prospects to acquire Cabrera, but it’s much more likely the Red Sox will target a rental arm at the deadline. They don’t have the deepest farm system in baseball, so a cheaper alternative seems to make a bit more sense.<\/p>\n

The Cubs might be the perfect fit for this trade. Chicago has a loaded farm system with a lot of expendable options. Chicago could use top outfield prospect Owen Caissie as the headliner in a deal for Cabrera.<\/p>\n

Either way, the Cubs need pitching and Cabrera would fit that bill in a big way. He’s seemingly one of the better young pitching options on the market, but the Cubs would need to trade a haul to land him.<\/p>\n
