The Boston Red Sox have moved beyond the need for David Hamilton.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s an unfortunate reality of his role within the organization, as improved depth on the infield has steadily pushed him down the totem pole. Marcelo Mayer\u2019s arrival kickstarted things, with Alex Bregman\u2019s return from injury serving as the final blow to Hamilton\u2019s chances of sticking in Boston.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox demoted him to Triple-A Worcester on July 11.<\/p>\n

MassLive\u2019s Katie Morrison-O\u2019Day caught up with the veteran infielder on Friday, who admitted he wasn\u2019t surprised by the demotion. Hamilton said he was looking forward getting regular at-bats for the first time in a while after being allowed to spend the All-Star break at home in Texas.<\/p>\n

Hamilton, who slashed .179\/.229\/.276 in the big leagues in 2025, likely won\u2019t be back any time soon. The Red Sox are comfortable rolling with Mayer and Romy Gonz\u00e1lez as platoon options at both second and third base, while Kristian Campbell and even Vaughn Grissom appear to be next in line as potential injury replacements.<\/p>\n
