The Braves are closer to the bottom team in the National League than the Wild Card, and it\u2019s fair to wonder what they\u2019ll do at the trade deadline.<\/p>\n
Buying anything other than an asset that can help in future years would be malpractice, but they do have some pieces to sell.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, they\u2019re few and far between, especially considering Alex Anthopoulos refuses to move players with multiple years of team control.<\/p>\n
He said as much a few weeks ago, and the thought was that maybe this stretch of sub-.500 ball would change his stance. Nope. According to Robert Murray, Anthopoulos won\u2019t trade Chris Sale, nor any player under control beyond this season.<\/p>\n
\u201cAtlanta has not discussed Sale in trade talks and will not consider moving the left-hander or any other player under control beyond 2025, according to major-league sources.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n The reasoning from the team\u2019s point of view is obvious.<\/p>\n The Braves aren\u2019t going to hit a hard reset. It\u2019ll just be a retooling as the club prepares to compete in 2026, and Anthopoulos believes these players will help in that regard, as Murray continued.<\/p>\n \u201cBut the Braves want to contend in 2026 and (rightfully) believe that having Sale \u2013 and other controllable long-term pieces still on the roster \u2013 will be the best way to getting the franchise back in the postseason.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n However, to just blindly commit to long-term guys like Ozzie Albies and Michael Harris is asinine.<\/p>\n Hell, what if a club blew the Braves President of Baseball Operations with an offer for Sean Murphy?<\/strong><\/p>\n It\u2019s a narrow-minded approach to managing a club.<\/p>\n I didn\u2019t even mention the relievers like Pierce Johnson or Aaron Bummer that could bring back a respective haul.<\/p>\n Anthopoulos seems to be steadfast in his approach at the Braves trade deadline.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Braves are closer to the bottom team in the National League than the Wild Card, and it\u2019s fair to wonder what they\u2019ll do at the trade… <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":67691,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-67684","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-nfl"],"yoast_head":"\n
