The San Francisco 49ers have made many moves this offseason, but only three of their transactions since the end of their 2024 campaign have been trades.<\/p>\n
The first sent wide receiver Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders for a fifth-round pick that the 49ers ended up using on Oregon running back Jordan James. The second gave running back Jordan Mason and a 2025 sixth-round pick (No. 187) to the Minnesota Vikings for a 2025 fifth-round pick (used on Kansas State safety Marques Sigle) and a 2026 sixth-round selection.<\/p>\n

San Francisco’s third and final trade of the offseason thus far came after the draft, when they traded a conditional 2026 fifth-round pick (could become a fourth) to the Philadelphia Eagles for edge rusher Bryce Huff.<\/p>\n
Earlier this week, CBS Sports’ Jeff Kerr ranked the 12 best trades of the offseason, and the 49ers acquiring Huff came in at No. 10.<\/p>\n
“Huff was a disaster with the Eagles last season, not even being active for their Super Bowl LIX victory over the Chiefs,”\u00a0Kerr wrote. “The Eagles moved on from Huff during minicamp, sending him to San Francisco and reuniting him with defensive coordinator Robert Saleh — in a defense where he had one of the highest pass-rushing rates in the league as a pass-rushing specialist.”<\/p>\n
The 27-year-old originally entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the New York Jets in 2020 following a collegiate career at Memphis, where he earned All-AAC honors twice.<\/p>\n

Huff appeared in 54 games for New York over four seasons, recording 65 tackles (17 for a loss), 43 quarterback hits, 17.5 sacks, three passes defensed and one forced fumble.<\/p>\n
Last offseason, he signed a three-year $51.1 million deal with the Eagles. However, he suffered a torn ligament in his wrist, which cost him five games in the regular season. He finished the year with just 13 tackles (three for a loss), four quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks and a forced fumble.<\/p>\n
With the 49ers, Huff has a $7.95 million cap hit in 2025 and is expected to be in the mix for a top edge rushing role alongside Nick Bosa and 2025 first-round pick Mykel Williams.<\/p>\n
Interestingly, Kerr ranked Samuel’s trade to the Commanders one spot ahead of the Huff trade at No. 9.<\/p>\n
