These 2 receivers will battle for a critical roster spot"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With training camp in Oxnard getting underway later this month, we know two things for certain among the Dallas Cowboys receivers.<\/p>\n<p>CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens will be starters, assuming no injuries derail either, and KaVontae Turpin will get some plays in along with being the kick returner.<\/p>\n<p>That really leaves one important slot open on the depth chart at the position. There are two players who will be battling throughout camp, trying to outshine each other.<\/p>\n<p>Jalen Tolbert and Jonathan Mingo.<\/p>\n<p>Ladies and gentlemen, as a certain boxing announcer might say, let\u2019s get ready to rumbllllleeeee.<\/p>\n<h2>Tolbert\u2019s Time To Shine?<\/h2>\n<p data-slot-rendered-content=\"true\">Drafted in the third round in 2022, Tolbert saw extremely limited action in his rookie year.<\/p>\n<div id=\"grow-me-inline-subscribe-cta-root-0\" class=\"inline-subscribe\" data-testid=\"inline-subscribe-cta-0\" data-within-recipe=\"false\" data-inline-subscribe-cta=\"true\">\n<div data-nosnippet=\"true\">\n<div class=\"ShadowDomContainer___StyledDiv-paiu0k-0\">\n<div class=\"sc-dJiZtA fABosG test\">\n<div class=\"SpotlightSubscribeForm___StyledDiv3-sc-156rk68-0 jjFXYJ\">\n<div class=\"sc-fiCwlc dcckNr\" data-testid=\"inline-subscribe\">\n<div class=\"sc-ibQAlb fZnOPv\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In 2023, he suited up for all 17 games, starting six.<\/p>\n<p>Tolbert had 36 targets that year, catching 22 of them for 268 yards and two touchdowns.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, as usually happens with most receivers in Year 3, he had 49 receptions for 610 yards and seven touchdowns. Tolbert started in 15 of the 17 games he played in during 2024.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the season, he seemed a lock to be a starting receiver in 2025.<\/p>\n<p data-slot-rendered-content=\"true\">Suddenly, Tolbert\u2019s chances to start were diminished. That is also partly due to a late-season trade the Cowboys made last year.<\/p>\n<div>\n<div><span class=\"ctaText\">See also<\/span>\u00a0\u00a0<span class=\"postTitle\">Michael Gallup: Headed For Breakout Year, Or Sophomore Slump?<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Second Chances For Mingo, Jones<\/h2>\n<p>Jerry Jones and the Cowboys front office coveted Mingo in the 2023 draft.<\/p>\n<p>But the Panthers beat them to him in the second round. He caught five passes for 46 yards for Dallas in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>Mingo has yet to catch his first NFL touchdown pass.<\/p>\n<p>The Cowboys are clearly hoping he has his third-year receiver breakout season in 2025.<\/p>\n<h2>There Can Be Only One<\/h2>\n<p>Mingo probably has the edge going into camp.
