Another tough one for the White Sox, as they lose 3-2 to the Orioles to cement a sweep at Camden Yards in three close games. This was a slow offensive day for both teams, and another great outing for new South Sider Adrian Houser. The Orioles \u201cimprove\u201d to 22-36, while the White Sox now fall to 18-41, as they are 3-7 in their last 10 games.<\/p>\n
Houser and O\u2019s vet Charlie Morton cruised through the first two innings, but trouble hit in the bottom of the third. Maverick Handley singled for the Orioles to start the bottom of the frame, followed by a Jackson Holliday double to put runners on second and third. Finally, Houser\u2019s first earned run of the season came on a Ram\u00f3n Ur\u00edas single. Ryan O\u2019Hearn added a sacrifice fly to give the Sox a 2-0 deficit early on.<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t until the top of the sixth that the offense woke up for the Sox, as Andrew Benintendi started off the inning with a single. Benintendi advanced to second on a balk and then then came around on an error by Holliday, as Joshua Palacios grounded to second base on a slow roller that snuck under Holliday\u2019s glove. A series of Sox-esque errors finally surfaced for an opposing team:<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, Dylan Carlson made a diving catch in left to take away a hit from Luis Robert Jr. who really needed it considering his recent struggles; Palacios was caught far off of first base on the play, but another Holliday flub on the relay throw to first prevented a double play. No matter, as a slumping Edgar Quero struck out to end the inning.<\/p>\n
In the bottom of the sixth the Orioles added another after a dreaded leadoff walk to O\u2019Hearn, who then advanced on a force out and scored on a Carlson double.<\/p>\n
Gregory Soto came in to replace Morton after his 6 2\u20443 innings pitched with six hits, one run (unearned), one walk and seven strikeouts.<\/p>\n
Soto immediately gave up a solo home run to Mike Tauchman with some lefty-on-lefty action, Tauchman\u2019s second of the year:<\/p>\n
Houser was replaced in the bottom of the seventh inning after another solid day with 6 1\u20443 innings pitched, eight hits, three runs, one walk and three strikeouts.<\/p>\n
There was no late rally for the White Sox, and the 3-2 game held up.<\/p>\n
The White Sox return home after a 1-5 trip, and their reward is four games with first-place Detroit, beginning tomorrow at 6:40 p.m. The Tigers will send Jack Flaherty on the mound, facing Jonathan Cannon.<\/p>\n
