It might not be much longer until the Red Sox\u2019s \u201cbig three\u201d prospects are reunited in Boston.<\/p>\n

Kristian Campbell, of course, cracked Alex Cora\u2019s Opening Day roster, and Marcelo Mayer was called up to the big leagues last Saturday. While Mayer certainly earned his promotion, it was also partly because Alex Bregman went down with a \u201csevere\u201d quad injury.<\/p>\n

If you ask MassLive\u2019s Chris Cotillo, Roman Anthony\u2019s eventual call-up will be far less about depth and much more about trying to find a spark. And given the way the Red Sox are trending, Cotillo would not be surprised if Anthony makes the drive from Worcester to Boston sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this point, I wouldn\u2019t be surprised if it\u2019s any day,\u201d Cotillo said Tuesday on \u201cFoul Territory.\u201d \u201cHe has nothing left to prove in the minors. It\u2019s just, they have (Jarren) Duran, they have (Wilyer) Abreu, they have (Ceddanne) Rafaela. They have (Rafael) Devers getting DH at-bats every day. It\u2019s tough to find a place to put him. I think if they get creative with Rafaela and do something they don\u2019t want to do \u2014 mix him into the infield mix as a super-utility guy \u2014 maybe that clears the path. A couple more losses, that spark, that urgency comes even more into play.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boston obviously is well aware of Anthony\u2019s game-changing talent, and as Cotillo suggested, the franchise might view the 21-year-old as one of the likeliest spark providers in the organization at this point. It wouldn\u2019t be a totally seamless insertion due to the outfield logjam, but Alex Cora and company have become plenty versed with lineup creativity.<\/p>\n

So, all things considered, we probably shouldn\u2019t be stunned if Anthony is patrolling the Fenway Park grass in the not-so-distant future.<\/p>\n
