After two-and-a-half hours and an hour-and-20-minute rain delay, the Chicago White Sox got the shortened-game victory, for the second time this season. They steal the 5-4 win over the Houston Astros, as the game was called in the seventh inning due to rain. Thanks to some middle<\/s>– late-inning heroics, the team was able to fight back from down 4-0 to start the fifth inning.<\/p>\n
Chicago has reached double-digit wins (10-24) and have won their second series of the season, both at home.<\/p>\n
This team may be bad, but if they could be fun-bad, things might get a little more interesting this season.<\/p>\n
The South Siders threatened early against a shaky Lance McCullers Jr., who was on the mound for his first start since the 2022 season. But they couldn\u2019t get any runs across with two out and runners on second and third. After battling injuries and setbacks the last two seasons, it was great to see McCullers back out there on the mound again.<\/p>\n
The Astros scored early off of permanent spot-starter Bryse Wilson, as two walks and a single loaded the bases, and Mauricio Dub\u00f3n capitalized with a two-run single.<\/p>\n
McCullers ended up going a quick 3 2\u20443 innings with three hits, three walks, and four strikeouts.<\/p>\n
The Astros would add two more later on in the top of the fifth inning, as Zach Dezenzo hit a two-run home run off of Wilson to extend the lead to 4-0.<\/p>\n
Last year, this team would have probably shut off and died facing a four-run deficit. But hey … Venable\u2019s boys don\u2019t quit?<\/p>\n
Mike Vasil replaced Wilson following the home run, with Wilson carrying a final stat line of 4 2\u20443 innings pitched with nine hits, four runs, two walks, and four strikeouts. Decent production from a pitcher who is used to shorter outings out of the bullpen.<\/p>\n
The comeback started in the bottom of the fifth inning off of Tay Scott. Andrew Benintendi reached on a fielding error by Dezenzo in right, Luis Robert Jr. followed with a walk, and Edgar Quero with a single. With two outs, Josh Rojas had an RBI walk to drive in a run, and Lenyn Sosa followed with a two-run single.<\/p>\n
Michael A. Taylor struck out to end the inning, but the team would rally again in the bottom of the sixth inning. Chase Meidroth walked to start the inning. It isn\u2019t talked about enough, but Meidroth is the new Yasmani Grandal when it comes to walks.<\/p>\n
Meidroth stole second, and with two outs Robert came up clutch to drive in the tying run on a single to center field.<\/p>\n
Robert went on to steal his league-leading 15th base.<\/p>\n

Shortly after, Quero had a beautiful at-bat that led to what turned out to be the game-winning RBI single, and a 5-4 lead.<\/p>\n
In the top of the seventh inning with Vasil still on the mound, the Astros threatened after a hit-by-pitch to Yainer Diaz, but Victor Carantini ended the inning with a double play. From there, the rain was too much to handle. The game went into a delay, and never re-started.<\/p>\n
Lucky for us. Who knows how our bullpen would have held up against a top team? I want to personally thank the rain for getting me another win to write about.<\/p>\n
The team will now head to Kansas City to take on the Royals starting tomorrow at 6:40 p.m. CT. This will be a four-game set, and Shane Smith will start it off tomorrow night against Cole Ragans.<\/p>\n
