The <\/em>Kansas City Chiefs have made their next selection!<\/em><\/p>\n

The Chiefs took Oregon linebacker Jeffrey Bassa with the 156th overall pick in the fifth round. We have insta-grades from the three members of the <\/em>Arrowhead Pride Draft Team.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

\n

Caleb: <\/strong>The Chiefs didn’t need to draft a linebacker, but Bassa does provide a quality skill set and tools that the Chiefs can work with. The former high school safety is a natural in coverage. and should be able to find snaps in the Chiefs sub-packages early on in his career.<\/p>\n

Bassa will also likely be a candidate to play all four phases of special teams for Dave Toub in the 2025 season. This pick feels like the Chiefs acknowledging the need for more depth and speed at the linebacker spot, even if Bassa will only make a minimal impact this upcoming season.<\/p>\n

Bassa is a good tackler and will bring quality depth and value to the Chiefs, but with an interesting group of running backs available, it still leaves something to be desired.<\/p>\n

Grade:<\/strong> C<\/p>\n

Nate: <\/strong>This is good value for Bassa. I had him in the Round 4 range. Bassa is an interesting player. He\u2019s a bit undersized, but he is explosive and fast. If you can keep him off blocks, he\u2019ll be helpful. I\u2019m concerned about his stiffness \u2014 he ran a 7.3 3-cone drill \u2014 that I saw on film. But it\u2019s Round 5 and getting depth at linebacker is fine, especially since the Chiefs needed that. However, I will still clamor for a running back, and with Damien Martinez and Devin Neal on the board, I\u2019m feeling disappointed. I think those picks would have had a bigger impact.<\/p>\n

Grade:<\/strong> C+<\/p>\n

Rocky: <\/strong>154 is good value for Bassa, who is a bit of a tweener between linebacker and safety. Due to his smaller size, he struggles to get off blocks. He also has a pretty small frame, so I\u2019m not sure how much additional weight he can put on to get stronger against the run.<\/p>\n

But as an off-ball linebacker on passing downs, he is explosive and has the athletic traits to run sideline to sideline and is sticky in coverage.<\/p>\n

The Chiefs needed linebacker depth, and they got one of the better coverage linebackers in this class for pretty cheap. That being said, Bassa profiles as a third-and-long situational player and special-teams contributor. Only time will tell if he has what it takes to do more.<\/p>\n

With a few highly graded running backs still on the board, I would have liked to see them go that direction before the seventh round.<\/p>\n
