All players will likely be seeking multi-year deals this offseason<\/h2>\n

The\u00a0Mets\u00a0have extended the one-year, $21.05 million qualifying offer to free agent starting pitchers\u00a0Sean Manaea<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Luis Severino,<\/strong>\u00a0as well as first baseman\u00a0Pete Alonso<\/strong>, per Mets president of baseball operations\u00a0David Stearns.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Any player who receives the qualifying offer has until Nov. 19 to decide whether to accept it or reject.<\/p>\n

If a player accepts the Mets’ offer, he\u2019d be back for the 2025 season on a one-year deal.<\/p>\n

If a player rejects it, he could still ultimately sign with the Mets, but if he were to sign anywhere else, the Mets would receive compensation in the 2025 MLB Draft.<\/p>\n

Last year, seven players received the qualifying offer, and all declined. And\u00a0according to MLB.com\u2019s Mike Petriello, only 10 percent of offers have been accepted since 2012.<\/p>\n

Alonso will all but certainly decline the qualifying offer, as he could end up netting a deal in the five-to-seven year range.<\/p>\n

The first baseman earned his fourth All-Star nod as a Met this past season, hitting 34 home runs with 88 RBI. While he had a bit of a down year overall, Alonso delivered in the postseason, blasting an unforgettable three-run home run off of Milwaukee’s\u00a0Devin Williams<\/strong>\u00a0in Game 3 of the Wild Card series.<\/p>\n

The 32-year-old Manaea, who is coming off a strong season, will likely decline the offer and seek a multi-year deal.<\/p>\n

Manaea had a fairly pedestrian first half with the Mets last season, but a midseason tweak to alter his delivery completely changed things for the 32-year-old. Excluding his season finale at Milwaukee, Manaea was outstanding in August and September, pitching to 2.91 ERA while going at least 7.0 innings six times.<\/p>\n

He was also very reliable in the postseason, allowing just five earned runs over his first three playoff games, including 7.0 innings of one-run ball against the Phillies in Game 3 of the NLDS.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old Severino is in a similar boat as Manaea in that he will likely get multi-year offers, meaning he\u2019ll probably decline the qualifying offer.<\/p>\n

The righty had a nice bounce-back season with the Mets in 2024, pitching to a 3.91 ERA, and perhaps more importantly, ended up making 31 starts — the first time he hit the 30-start mark since 2018 with the Yankees.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
