According to a report from ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs are re-signing defensive end Charles Omenihu to a one-year contract.<\/p>\n

Schefter says the deal is worth up to $7 million.<\/p>\n

The 27-year-old Omenihu spent two and a half seasons with the Houston Texans, who drafted him in the fifth round (161st overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He then spent a season and a half with the San Francisco 49ers before signing a two-year contract with Kansas City that was worth up to $20 million.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, Omenihu missed the first six games of the 2023 season under an NFL suspension for violating the league\u2019s personal conduct policy after he was arrested on suspicion of domestic violence while he was with 49ers.<\/p>\n

He returned to the Chiefs in mid-October, collecting 31 tackles (19 solo, five for loss), eight sacks, 12 quarterback hits, two passes defensed and three forced fumbles over 14 games \u2014 but then suffered a torn ACL in the AFC Championship.<\/p>\n

That injury kept him out until last season\u2019s Black Friday matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders. Through the season\u2019s final nine games, he accumulated just 15 tackles (10 solo, three for loss), two sacks, two quarterback hits, a pass defensed and two forced fumbles.<\/p>\n

Omenihu was expected to go after a significant contract in free agency \u2014 but after missing 17 games over two seasons in Kansas City, it appears his market wasn\u2019t as strong as he may have anticipated. He\u2019ll now play on what amounts to a \u201cprove-it\u201d deal for the Chiefs, who will be hoping the versatile lineman will finally be able to put together a full season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
