The Boston Red Sox enter 2025 with the goal of their first playoff run since 2021.<\/p>\n

They will not start the year at full strength, however.<\/p>\n

Romy Gonzalez, Masataka Yoshida, Brayan Bello, Kutter Crawford and Lucas Giolito all appear to not start the season on the 26-man roster due to various injuries. Players such as Josh Winckowski, Vaughn Grissom and Luis Guerrero also got sent down to Triple-A to start the season in Worcester.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox still have plenty of talent and depth to ramp up the season. The impact additions from the offseason will be essential to start the season as Boston hopes for a head start in anticipation of returning talent from injury.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s a projection for how the Red Sox could shape up on Opening Day in Texas.<\/p>\n

Bregman rightfully takes over the third base job. Story returns healthy to anchor the infield defense. After weeks as the favorite, Campbell wins the second base job and Casas plays first.<\/p>\n

Gonzalez would normally be depth on the roster, but the state of the roster pushes Sogard back to the big leagues with positional versality and a switch-hitter off the bench for the Red Sox.<\/p>\n

OUTFIELDERS<\/strong>

For now, the Red Sox trot out the outfield they originally envisioned last season with Duran in left field, Rafaela in center field and Abreu, who should be ready after a viral illness early in camp, in right field to defend his Gold Glove.<\/p>\n

Refsnyder fills the fourth outfielder role. Then it\u2019s only a matter of time before Roman Anthony factors into this equation later this spring for the Red Sox.<\/p>\n

DESIGNATED HITTER<\/strong>

The Red Sox finally make the best baseball decision for their franchise player. Devers, who just played his first game of the spring Saturday, moves to designated hitter to focus on his elite offensive prowess with Bregman taking over at third base.<\/p>\n

The Red Sox have their ace in Crochet to make the start on Opening Day. Houck follows and Buehler could be the team\u2019s X-Factor in the first month of the season.<\/p>\n

Boston\u2019s built-up pitching depth will be put to the test to start the season with multiple starters down. Both Fitts and Priester already pitched in Red Sox uniforms and can bring Boston through the first few turns of the rotation.<\/p>\n
