Dallas Cowboys All-Pro returner and speed merchant KaVontae Turpin will be calling The Star home for the next three seasons after putting pen to paper on an $18 million deal. Turpin, who is a two-time Pro Bowler and an All-Pro in his first three seasons, has been a star return man, with his speed and agility a nightmare for special teams units to combat.<\/p>\n
But over the past couple of seasons, Turpin has been trying his hand at receiver with his blistering speed, gives Dak Prescott a home-run threat, and 420 yards in 2024 (career-high) showed he can be a valuable weapon on offense. And now that he’s freshly signed, he’s ready to be the ultimate weapon for offensive play-caller Brian Schottenheimer.<\/p>\n
“Going into the offense, I don’t look at myself as a receiver no more,” Turpin said in an interview with dallascowboys.com. “I look at myself as an offensive weapon. I’m going out there and you can give me carries, give me receptions, and whatever you need me to do. I’ll go out there and play tight end, too. “That’s just the kind of competitor I am. I’m going out there to be an offensive weapon. That’s my goal.”<\/p>\n
Turpin showed flashes of his talent as a receiver, but for whatever reason, we didn’t see it dialed up often enough last season. KaVontae had four games of 50+ receiving yards, and ironically, all came when he had at least three targets. Conversely, Turpin had 10 games of two of fewer targets, and in four of them, not a single pass was thrown his way.<\/p>\n
When you have a speed burner like Turpin, getting him the ball either on a jet sweep or as a genuine running back, plus as a receiver who can stretch the field and blow past a defender with ease, that merits more smaps on offense.<\/p>\n
Fresh off his new deal and with a new play-caller, Turpin is ready to be a formidable weapon for the Cowboys – he just has to get the chance to be one.<\/p>\n
