The New York Yankees don’t seem to be willing to pull out all of the stops in order to replace Giancarlo Stanton.<\/p>\n

After the $325 million slugger received a second PRP injection to help recover from painful tendon injuries in both elbows, it remains unclear when Stanton will resume baseball activities. Finding his replacement won’t be easy, but the Yankees reportedly had some interest in free-agent star J.D. Martinez.<\/p>\n

However, it appears those talks haven’t gotten anywhere in the latest update from Jon Heyman of The New York Post.<\/p>\n

“The Yankees did reach out on J.D. Martinez, but the sides don\u2019t seem close, as the Yankees don\u2019t want to spend any\/much more,” Heyman wrote.<\/p>\n

New York has put itself in a bind this offseason given its desire to avoid overextending too much beyond the $301 million luxury tax threshold. Though they are still projected to be over the limit, owner Hal Steinbrenner has made it clear they won’t take on the “spare no expense” mentality.<\/p>\n

Martinez would be a solid stop-gap option for however long Stanton is going to be out, but it appears they want to lean on the cheaper internal options like Ben Rice, who ”\u00a0looks like the top in-house candidate,” according to Heyman.<\/p>\n

The Yankees are dealing with some grim injury updates already, but it doesn’t appear they will be making any significant moves to address them any time soon.<\/p>\n
