COO Stephen Jones has made it clear that the Dallas Cowboys want to draft a quarterback in 2025 to potentially back up Dak Prescott. While there are other skill positions the organization wants to target as well, the 2025 Draft features a quality crop of QB prospects.<\/p>\n

Milroe is going to give you a lot of the same things that Lance did, good arm but he is also a dynamic runner, scouts have said he could run in the low 4.4’s.” he said. Not just scouts … Milroe also believes he could’ve ran in the 4.4’s – or lower – in the Scouting Combine 40-yard dash. He chose not to run (Brady Cook from Missouri led all quarterbacks with a 4.59), but that doesn’t take away from Milroe’s note-worthy speed. “He does need some work as a passer but behind Dak Prescott, he is going to have that time to develop and clean up so<\/p>\n
Jones has also pointed out that every time Dallas wants to draft a quarterback in later rounds, he ends up getting picked by someone else much earlier. But when you’re drafting a player who will sit behind the highest paid player the NFL anyway, it may be safe to roll the dice a bit to see what happens.<\/p>\n
In this case, drafting Jalen Milroe. The Katy, Texas native amassed 3,570 all-purpose yards and 36 touchdowns (16 passing, 20 rushing) leading the Crimson Tide last season. Milroe has exceptional athleticism and can be a gifted runner at any point in a game, but as Miller mentioned… “[Dallas] had Trey Lance who is such a great athlete at quarterback, he couldn’t get on the field there.” Related: Cowboys Plan $40 Million Change in Dak Contract Following Lamb Move While the Lance experiment may have “failed”, that’s not to say adding a dual-threat quarterback is now out of the picture.<\/p>\n
At the end of the day, there’s still a need at the position … for anybody, dual-threat or not. Lance and Cooper Rush, the only other quarterbacks besides Prescott who got playing time last season, are both free agents this offseason. Interest in Milroe – as a Day 3 pick, we assume – may hint at the Cowboys looking for someone with natural athleticism and elusiveness, who can then develop their arm talent later on.<\/p>\n
