Last season, the 26-year-old Gil registered a 15-7 record and 3.50 ERA in 29 starts, limiting opponents to an AL-best .189 batting average.<\/p>\n<p>Gil&#8217;s injury history includes a Tommy John surgery that cost him most of the 2022 season. However, he appeared to turn a corner last year by racking up 151.2 innings pitched as a key member of the Yankees&#8217; starting rotation that went deep into October.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s yet another blow for the Yankees, which are also dealing with injury setbacks to slugger Giancarlo Stanton and infielder DJ LeMahieu.<\/p>\n<p>In the absence of Gil, the Yankees will turn to two-time All-Star Marcus Stroman to step up. The 33-year-old Stroman was an initial no-show to spring training and said he would not pitch out of the bullpen if asked.
