The Braves had a split squad affair on Tuesday, with half the team playing the Pirates and the other half facing off against the Red Sox. Atlanta came away winners in both games behind strong performances from some of their top arms.<\/p>\n

Against Pittsburgh, Spencer Schwellenbach \u2014 who is coming off a dominant rookie campaign \u2014 shined in his first performance of Spring Training, tossing a couple of scoreless frames with two strikeouts. The line is impressive, but the stuff looked even crisper than it did to end last season, which is extremely encouraging this early in camp.<\/p>\n

Following Schwellenbach was one of the Braves top prospect arms in Hurston Waldrep, who also pitched a scoreless inning, allowing no hits and just one walk. A promising first outing from the former first-round pick, who the Braves hope can play a role for the team as early as this season.<\/p>\n

Atlanta\u2019s lineup of mostly reserves and minor league guys only mustered a couple of runs, headlined by a fifth-inning go-ahead single off the bat of Bryan De La Cruz. But that would be all they needed to come out victorious, as a combination of six other Braves pitchers held the Pirates to just one run on the afternoon.<\/p>\n

Against Boston, Reynaldo Lopez got the rock for his first start of the spring and also looked in mid-season form, tossing two scoreless innings with two punch-outs as well. A hodgepodge of potential relievers followed Lopez, including a number of arms attempting to make the roster \u2014 like Angel Perdomo, Jake Diekman, Buck Farmer, and Dylan Covey. All of whom threw scoreless frames as the Braves beat the Red Sox 6-1. With the big blast coming from Marcell Ozuna, who opened up the scoring with a two-run shot, his first of the spring.<\/p>\n
