The Cleveland Guardians keep making moves to bolster their rotation.<\/p>\n
Their latest one, however, might not be impactful right away.<\/p>\n
They just signed former Baltimore Orioles southpaw John Means to a one-year deal worth $1 million.<\/p>\n
He\u2019s still recovering from Tommy John surgery, and he\u2019s had to go under the knife to undergo that same procedure twice since 2022.<\/p>\n
With that in mind, Orioles and MLB Network broadcaster Melanie Newman gushed about what Guardians fans can expect from the left-handed hurler:<\/p>\n
\u201cCleveland is really going to love John Means. He is the idea of an athlete that you really wish the entire clubhouse could be filled with. He\u2019s had ten starts since 2022, barely over 50 innings pitched in that span, and some tough luck with the injury bug. But this is somebody that once he\u2019s healthy, it\u2019s going to be fixed correctly, i\u2019t gonna be all clear from there,\u201d Newman said.<\/em><\/p>\n Means\u2019 contract includes a team option for 2026.<\/p>\n Means made 26 starts in 2021 and went 6-9 with a 3.62 ERA.<\/p>\n However, he\u2019s only been able to make ten starts in three seasons since that breakout campaign.<\/p>\n He logged a 23-26 record with a 3.68 ERA in his seven-year career in Maryland.<\/p>\n Of course, this is a low-risk\/high-reward pickup for this ball club, and the fact that they got him on such a team-friendly deal is a massive win for the front office.<\/p>\n Granted, there are always major risks that come with signing a player with a history of injuries, especially this type of injury.<\/p>\n Nevertheless, the Guardians only need one or maybe two more reliable arms to bolster their rotation.<\/p>\n They will get Shane Bieber back at some point in the campaign, and if they can get Means close to his former level to take the mound down the stretch, Stephen Vogt\u2019s team is going to be very dangerous in 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Cleveland Guardians keep making moves to bolster their rotation.
