De\u2019Vondre Campbell is speaking out for the first time about his unceremonious exit from the San Francisco 49ers, and seemingly the NFL altogether, in a social media rant directed at his critics.<\/p>\n
The veteran linebacker, who joined the 49ers with a one-year contract in 2024, ended his season \u2014 and his time with the team \u2014 after refusing to play in the team\u2019s Dec. 12 game against the Los Angeles Rams and later walking off the sidelines, per the NFL and NBC Sports. He was subsequently suspended for the remainder of the season.<\/p>\n
The 49ers’ general manager, John Lynch, said the team suspended Campbell, 31, “due to conduct detrimental to the team,” and his exit has been heavily discussed online and in NFL programming. But the linebacker has remained relatively tight-lipped about his side of things \u2014 until now.<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
On Friday, Feb. 21, Campbell went on a long and profanity-laden rant on X after a critic called him out on the platform for being \u201csoft\u201d and \u201cacting like you\u2019re a tough guy after crying your way out of two teams.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cListen, I\u2019m sick of all you bitch a– n—– jumping under my tweets,\u201d the linebacker began his response. \u201cIt\u2019s been 2 months and I have yet to address the situation cause I know the truth and don\u2019t care to clear anything up.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m by myself ALL the time,\u201d Campbell continued, \u201cif you or any of them bitch a– n—– from the 49ers feel some type of way go wit ya move when you see me cause all them n—– that had so much to say about me gone have to stand on them words next time I see them.\u201d<\/p>\n
The linebacker went on to say that he\u2019s \u201cbeen standing on business my whole life and it\u2019s gone be like that until the day I\u2019m 6ft under.\u201d<\/p>\n
He also said that those criticizing him amid his saga with the 49ers do not \u201cknow\u201d him, before calling out those who have been speaking on the situation with only the San Francisco team\u2019s statements to go on.<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
\u201cThat goes for all them old a– retired n—– that jumped on TV speaking on my name when they could\u2019ve reached out to me and heard it from the [horse’s] mouth,\u201d he wrote, \u201cbut they just took what the 49ers said and ran with it. [Y’all] n—– p—- too f— all of [y’all] \ud83e\udd37\ud83c\udfff\u200d\u2642\ufe0f.\u201d<\/p>\n
After the X account for The Seth Floyd Show<\/em>, a program dedicated to the NFL and 49ers football, criticized Campbell for the hypocrisy in his initial rant (\u201cCan\u2019t address the situation cause you can\u2019t defend yourself man\u201d) and said there is \u201cno excuse\u201d for quitting mid-game, Campbell doubled down on his previous posts.<\/p>\n
\u201cI ain\u2019t addressing s—,\u201d he responded in another X post. \u201cI\u2019m rich and never have to work another day of my life.\u201d<\/p>\n
The athlete \u2014 who played for the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals and Green Bay Packers prior to signing with the 49ers last year \u2014 went on to claim that both Lynch and 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan called him and \u201cbegged\u201d him to join the team \u201can hour\u201d after the Packers cut him.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really be sparing n—– \ud83e\udd2b,\u201d Campbell added. \u201cI play because I WANT TO.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n
A rep for the 49ers did not immediately respond to PEOPLE\u2019s request for comment on Feb. 22.<\/p>\n
Campbell concluded his headline-making rant with a final X post declaring that critics \u201ccan\u2019t get under my skin.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThey get mad when they can\u2019t successfully troll you \ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02\ud83d\ude02,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI\u2019m a real n—- you can\u2019t get under my skin my life is great.\u201d<\/p>\n
