They made headlines this offseason with the biggest move in franchise history, signing free agent\u00a0Juan Soto\u00a0to a 15-year, $765 million deal, the largest in American professional sports history.<\/p>\n
Adding Soto, who spent last season with the\u00a0New York Yankees\u00a0and made a trip to the World Series, is expected to significantly boosted the Mets’ lineup. Soto is widely regarded as one of the best pure hitters in the game, and on Wednesday, his new teammate, star infielder\u00a0Francisco Lindor<\/a>\u2014expected to bat leadoff\u2014sent a strong message to Soto, who is likely to follow him in the lineup.<\/p>\n “I have to get on base and let him do what he does,” Lindor said. “He’s one of the best hitters in the game, and I think he’s going to be fantastic whether I’m on base or not.
