Alex Bregman had options in free agency. In fact, one former MLB general manager claimed that as of Tuesday night, five clubs were \u201cstill in\u201d on the star third baseman.<\/p>\n

But by Wednesday evening, Bregman reportedly made his decision.<\/p>\n

The two-time World Series champion and the Red Sox agreed to a three-year, $120 million contract, according to multiple reports. Bregman figures to bring a slew of helpful assets to Boston, including an impactful right-handed bat, solid infield defense and veteran leadership.<\/p>\n

The reported details of the deal were a bit surprising, as the 30-year-old appeared hell-bent on landing a very long-term contract. Bregman might have been able to find such a pact in Detroit, where the Tigers reportedly presented a six-year offer.<\/p>\n

So, why did Bregman end up taking his talents to Boston? It surely was a multi-faceted decision, but the New York Post\u2019s Jon Heyman highlighted one major reason after news of the agreement broke.<\/p>\n

An outstanding OPS isn\u2019t the only impressive stat Bregman boasts at his new home ballpark. Across 21 career games in Boston (80 at-bats), the two-time All-Star currently owns a .375 average with seven home runs, nine doubles and 15 RBIs. He also carries a .490 OBP and .750 slugging percentage.<\/p>\n
