The Atlanta Braves have been uncharacteristically quiet this offseason, with their only move being the signing of Jurickson Profar to a three-year, $42 million contract.<\/p>\n

They also have watched starters Max Fried and Charlie Morton depart for the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles, respectively. The rotation is going to need some attention before the start of the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

Spencer Strider will be out to start the year, which makes the need for a rotation arm that much more obvious.<\/p>\n

Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter proposed the idea of Atlanta signing former St. Louis Cardinals right-hander Lance Lynn as a stopgap.<\/p>\n

“The Braves have enough MLB-ready young arms to navigate the first few months of the season until Spencer Strider returns without an outside addition, but veteran Lance Lynn could be a great bridge to his return,” Reuter predicted. “The 37-year-old has been\u00a0generating interest\u00a0as a reliever this winter, and he could transition to that role later in the year after chewing up some innings in April and May.”<\/p>\n

As Reuter mentions, Lynn has been targeted by some teams as a potential closer. However, the Braves are going to need him to be a starter, at least at the beginning of the year.<\/p>\n

There are plenty of internal options, but it can’t hurt to give Lynn a look as they try to boost their rotation for the 2025 season.<\/p>\n

Lynn went 7-4 with a 3.84 ERA in 23 starts last year with the Cardinals. He made two trips to the injured list though, so Atlanta will need him healthy for this year if they decide to sign him.<\/p>\n

When healthy, he can eat innings and record strikeouts at a high rate. He can also serve as a mentor for some of the younger pitchers on the Braves’ roster.<\/p>\n

We’ll see if Atlanta decides to target the veteran right-hander.<\/p>\n
