The Chicago Cubs are still in the mix for bullpen pieces after trading for Ryan Pressly. Jed Hoyer made it clear early in the offseason that he wants to improve the Cubs bullpen and has done that with more than just Pressly. Recent reports have indicated Chicago could be interested in reuniting with former closer David Robertson. Robertson is a 16-year veteran who’s impressed throughout his long career, posting a 2.91 ERA. He played for the Cubs in 2022, appearing in 36 games.<\/p>\n

The right-hander posted a 2.23 ERA and struck out 51 hitters in 40 1\/3 innings pitched. He was eventually traded to the Philadelphia Phillies during the campaign. However, he could be a decent fit again. Despite the reports, Ryan Finkelstein of Just Baseball predicted the All-Star would sign a one-year, $11.5 million deal with the Atlanta Braves.<\/p>\n

“Robertson could really fit any team who needs some relief help but is likely looking to latch on with a contender. The Braves fit that billing, it’s just a matter of wheter they are willing to spend for a reliever of Roberton’s caliber,” Finkelstein wrote. It feels as if the Braves are just sitting around, and everyone forgot about them. They’re still one of the marquee teams in the National League and could win a World Series if they stay healthy.<\/p>\n

Adding Robertson would help them get closer to their goal of winning it all. He threw the baseball well again In 2024, posting a 3.00 ERA and striking out 99 hitters in 72.0 innings for the Texas Rangers.<\/p>\n
