It\u2019s that time of year again.<\/p>\n
The freezing weather is starting to break, the snow that blanketed the east coast is melting away and the excitement of a new baseball season is in the air. In less than two weeks pitchers and catchers will report to their respective spring training camps and the 2025 season will be underway.<\/p>\n
As the offseason winds down, every team is looking to make some last minute additions or adjustments to maximize their rosters.<\/p>\n
Many veterans are still available but three former Orioles have been signed in the last week. Two are returning to former teams, while one is getting a fresh start.<\/p>\n
The fresh start goes to Austin Hays who signed with the Cincinnati Reds. Hays was drafted by the O\u2019s in 2016 and had been with the organization until he was traded to Philadelphia midway through the 2024 season.<\/p>\n
He struggled to stay healthy with the Phillies and became a free agent after the season.<\/p>\n
An All Star for the first time in 2023, Hays was not able to duplicate his numbers last season but will look to bounce back with the Reds.<\/p>\n
His defense has always been elite and he\u2019s able to play anywhere in the outfield at a high level. Cincinnati\u2019s Great American Ballpark is one of many stadiums built in the image of Camden Yards and the dimensions are very similar to the original Camden Yards dimensions.<\/p>\n
Hays is a pull hitter and should be very happy to see what looks like his old stadium before the left field wall was moved.<\/p>\n
These 3 former Orioles have finally found new homes in free agency<\/strong><\/p>\n Joining Hays in Cincinnati will be his former teammate in Baltimore, Wade Miley.<\/p>\n Miley was acquired by the Orioles in 2016 in a trade with the Seattle Mariners and stayed with the team through 2017.<\/p>\n Things didn\u2019t work out as planned for Miley in Baltimore but he did go on to have several good seasons after he left.<\/p>\n A 14-year journeyman pitcher, Miley signed a minor league contract with the Reds.<\/p>\n Now 38 years old, the lefty is trying to make a comeback after undergoing elbow surgery that cost him most of the 2024 season. He previously pitched for the Reds in 2020 and 2021, the second of which was one of Miley\u2019s best years and included a no-hitter.<\/p>\n Speaking of players returning to former teams, Adam Frazier signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates.<\/p>\n Frazier was drafted by the Pirates and was one of their top players until he was traded during the 2021 season after making his first All Star team. He\u2019s bounced around quite a bit since then and spent the 2023 season with the O\u2019s.<\/p>\n Frazier had a complicated relationship with Baltimore fans. Many loved him yet others seemed to think he was holding the team back.<\/p>\n Regardless of anyone\u2019s personal of Frazier, there\u2019s no denying he provided some exciting moments in Birdland. His most productive years were in Pittsburgh so hopefully Frazier finds success in his return.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" It\u2019s that time of year again.
